Van Gogh on display in #Trieste

22 FEBRUARY 2024 – 30 JUNE 2024 Revoltella Museum – Gallery of Modern Art, Trieste

The Revoltella Museum - Gallery of Modern Art of Trieste - will host in the exhibition rooms on the fourth floor starting from Thursday 22 February and until Sunday 30 June 2024 the exhibition dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh, one of the most well-known and appreciated painters in the world .

What is being presented in Trieste, in the prestigious venue of the Revoltella Museum, a historic residence and modern art gallery, designed by the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa, is the so-called "record exhibition", visited in a few months by 600,000 visitors in Rome.

Vincent Van Gogh, born in Holland on March 30, 1853, had a tormented life that ended with suicide at the age of just 37. The many tragedies that accompanied him during his existence and his difficult and unstable character profoundly influenced the artist's style.

The exhibition, through the display of over 50 masterpieces by Van Gogh, coming from the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, aims to document the painter's entire artistic career starting from the passionate relationship with the dark landscapes of his youth, to continue with the drawings and oils dedicated to the theme of the weavers, to reach the works of his stay in Paris, depicting the landscape and moments of the artist's social life and finally to the last paintings of St. Remy and Auvers-Sur-Oise, where he put an end to the his tormented life.

The exhibition will be enriched by a special presence: the two portraits of Monsieur and Madame Ginoux (the owners of the Arles café frequented by Van Gogh), painted in 1890, are preserved, one in the Kröller-Müller Museum – lender of almost all the works present in the exhibition – and the other at the National Gallery in Rome. On the occasion of the Trieste exhibition the two spouses, friends and portrayed by Van Gogh, will meet again and will be able to be close to each other again.

The exhibition, produced by Arthemisia, is promoted and organized by the Municipality of Trieste - Department of culture and tourism policies.
